Native to the sub-tropical Australian coast, macadamias were not only an important part of traditional aboriginal diets, the nut’s oil was also extracted and used for skin rejuvenation and skin ailments.
What makes macadamia oil unique is its high concentration of palmitoleic acid (19%), which is the highest of any plant oil. Palmitoleic acid is an important component of human sebum that diminishes with age. It is thought to soften, lubricate and protect the skin’s protein structures and help prevent moisture lose. It therefore makes sense to replenish our palmitoleic acid levels as we get older. This is why macadamia oil is used in many of our Pharmaoil products that have been developed for older skin.
Macadamia oil contains approximately 60% oleic acid, which helps it penetrate the skin quickly. It also contains complex Vitamin E, squalene, linoleic acid and linolenic acid that work with the palmitoleic acid to soften and tone dry or aged skin. It helps with wound healing and restoring the skin’s natural oil balance.
